STUDY: 1/3 Of Americans Use Facebook In The Bathroom

So hooked on Facebook, you can’t help but browse while you’re, er, relieving yourself?

You’re not alone â€" a recent study by AIS Media, an interactive marketing agency, revealed that almost one out of every three Americans check out Facebook while on the toilet.

The marketing company randomly called 500 Americans and asked, “Do you ever use Facebook on your mobile device while you’re in the bathroom?”

Twenty-seven percent said “yes.” Not surprisingly, Facebooking while on the throne was higher among womenâ€"a little less than 55 percent of female respondents admitted to sneaking their phones in the bathroom with them. Perhaps this is due to the fact that all women’s stalls have doors?

This is certainly no surprise â€" in October Facebook announced it has more than 150 million monthly mobile users on the site.

So what does this mean to marketers? Maybe it means that users are truly becoming addicted â€" unable to part with their connection to the social media world, even for a moment. It certainly points out the fact that we are constantly dialed in, and the accessibility of the mobile app makes it easy to discreetly use Facebook at even the intimate of moments.

Another thought we had: Maybe employees are checking Facebook in their office bathroom because they can’t log on to the social media site at work? After all, more than half of small businesses block the social media site (but who’s to say what you choose to do in the bathroom?).

Ok, fess up. How many of you are guilty for taking your phone into the loo with you? Even better, ever comment on a photo or wall post while on the toilet? Share with us in the comments section below.
