As unrest in Egypt continues, dissidents in neighboring Gaza appear to be catching the wave and calling for an uprising. Unidentified people have created a page on Facebook to urge Gazans to take to the streets on Friday to end Hamas's unilateral control over the Gaza Strip.
The page, called 'The Dignified Revolution' (Thauret al-Karama in Arabic), calls for a peaceful demonstration demanding that Hamas leaders step down, cut off relations with Iran and Syria, and allow Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas back to Gaza to form a unity government.
?"The young people of the beloved Gaza Strip will carry out a grand act that will change the face of history," a message posted on the page reads.
By Thursday morning, 2,669 people had joined the page by clicking "like." The Facebook page, in Arabic only, appealed to the Hamas security forces not to use violence against the demonstrators.
Political analysts talking to Fox News in Gaza and the West Bank said they were unsure if Facebook can have the same impact on people in Gaza as it did in Egypt. They said Gazans have suffered at the hands of the Hamas security apparatus, which has acted harshly against critics.
?But the unexpected could happen. As the Facebook page says:
"Our Message to Hamas and the government is that we are fed up with the division (between the West bank and Gaza), fed up with the destruction of the social network, and fed up with poverty and unemployment."
